Classification

MDI is classified into pure MDI and polymeric MDI by functionality:

 

• Pure MDI: ≥99% 4,4'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate content. White/slightly yellow solid at RT, melts to colorless/slightly yellow liquid.
• Polymeric MDI: Polyisocyanate mixture (≈50% diisocyanate, balance tri/polyisocyanate). Dark brown/reddish - brown liquid at RT.Properties
• Pure MDI: Prone to dimerization and yellowing at RT; requires cold storage (shelf life ~3 months).
• Polymeric MDI: Ambient - temperature storable; longer shelf life (2 years).
