Lauric acid, also known as dodecane acid, is a saturated fatty acid. Its molecular formula is C12H24O2. Although called lauric acid, it only accounts for 1-3% of the oil. At present, the vegetable oils with high content of lauric acid are coconut oil (45-52%), oil palm seed oil (44-52%) and babassu seed oil (43-44%). Although lauric acid is a saturated fatty acid, its cardiovascular risk is lower than other saturated fatty acids.
The most important effect of lauric acid is its antimicrobial ability, which can enhance immunity. Many people have found that the antimicrobial ability is enhanced after ingestion of lauric acid, such as influenza, fever, herpes, Chemicalbook, etc. Lauric acid can also reduce antibiotic resistance, reduce the risk of heart disease, etc. One of the benefits of lauric acid for young women is its ability to protect their skin, and studies have found that it works much better than some well-known cosmetics.
