Product Description

Product Introduction

99% Food Grade Industrial Grade Calcium Sulfate
Calcium sulfate is a naturally occurring inorganic compound widely recognized for its versatility in various industries. It exists in different hydrate forms, most commonly as gypsum (dihydrate, CaSO4·2H2O) and anhydrite (anhydrous, CaSO4). Gypsum is a soft, white mineral found in sedimentary deposits, while anhydrite forms through the dehydration of gypsum under high temperatures or pressure.

Commercially, calcium sulfate is obtained via mining natural deposits or as a byproduct of industrial processes (e.g., flue gas desulfurization in power plants). It is odorless, tasteless, and has low solubility in water, making it stable and easy to handle in various applications.

Product Application
1. Construction Industry
  • Building Materials: Gypsum is the primary component of gypsum boards (drywall), used for walls and ceilings due to its fire resistance, acoustic insulation, and ease of installation.
  • Cement Production: Anhydrite and gypsum act as set retarders in cement, regulating the hardening process to ensure workability.
  • Plasters and Mortars: Powdered gypsum mixed with water forms a paste that hardens into a durable material for decorative moldings, plasterboards, and construction repairs.
2. Food Industry
  • Food Additive: As a recognized food ingredient (E516), calcium sulfate serves multiple roles:
    • Coagulant: In tofu and cheese production, it triggers protein aggregation to form solid curds.
    • Dough Conditioner: Improves the texture and elasticity of bread, noodles, and pastries by strengthening gluten networks.
    • Nutrient Fortifier: Adds calcium to fortified foods (e.g., breakfast cereals, flours) to enhance nutritional value.
    • Firming Agent: Maintains the structure of canned vegetables and fruits during processing.
3. Agriculture and Horticulture
  • Soil Amendment: Gypsum is applied to alkaline soils to reduce salinity, improve drainage, and promote root growth by replacing sodium ions with calcium.
  • Fertilizer Additive: Supplies calcium and sulfur, essential nutrients for plant growth, especially in crops like cotton, vegetables, and fruits.
  • Animal Feed: Used as a mineral supplement in livestock feed to prevent calcium deficiency.
4. Industrial and Chemical Uses
  • Desiccant: Anhydrous calcium sulfate (anhydrite) absorbs moisture, making it suitable for drying gases and liquids in industrial processes.
  • Plaster Molds and Casts: In ceramics and metal casting, gypsum molds provide a smooth surface and heat resistance for shaping products.
  • Pharmaceuticals: As a filler or binder in tablet formulations, and in surgical casts due to its hardening properties.
  • Paper Industry: Used as a coating pigment to improve paper smoothness and print quality.
5. Environmental Applications
  • Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD): Byproducts from FGD systems in power plants are processed into gypsum for recycling in construction materials, reducing waste and sulfur emissions.
  • Water Treatment: Helps remove heavy metals and adjust pH in industrial wastewater.99% Food Grade Industrial Grade Calcium Sulfate
